Attic of a typical Berlin block in Neukölln transformed from storage into an artist’s atelier and living space.
With a low budget and strict regulations, the project focuses on preserving and reusing existing elements.
Against demolition advice due to Lindane contamination of the main structure, the project proves that careful wood restoration can save the structure, reducing costs and resources — always repair, never demolish. Natural insulation, new roof windows and precise detailing turn the attic into a warm, functional and ventilated space. Original elements like brick gables, old beams and irregular geometry remain visible, preserving the character while densifying from within.
